who we are
The Beyond Pink TEAM (we Take action, Educate, Advocate, Make a difference) is comprised of volunteers with various backgrounds and skills, but they all have one thing in common. Their lives have all been touched by breast cancer in some way. You can join a subcommittee that interests you and meets our goals. The Beyond Pink TEAM is a program of the Cedar Valley Cancer Committee, a nonprofit organization made possible by the collective efforts of many healthcare organizations, businesses and dedicated individuals.
Services we provide for people living with breast cancer include a variety of support groups, a quarterly newsletter, financial assistance for people living with breast cancer, advocacy efforts to end breast cancer and special events. With prior notice, Beyond Pink TEAM members may be available to help at your fundraisers, provide a speaker for a meeting, or offer insight on how a small group can make a big impact. Contact Us for more information and let’s work together to get BEYOND the Pink and TEAM up to END breast cancer.

OUR HISTORY
Beyond Pink TEAM is a local organization that has grown into a national vision. In 1988, the Cedar Valley Committee for Breast Cancer Awareness (CVCBCA) was started as a collaborative effort of area hospitals and other health organizations. The mission was to increase mammography utilization and to provide a breast cancer support group. The Metro Council of Hospitals provided funds for a support group facilitator. All other CVBCA members were volunteers or healthcare professionals whose employers saw value in supporting breast cancer awareness. The Metro Council of Hospitals encouraged the CVCBCA to expand the organization to include other cancers. In 1997, the name was changed to the Cedar Valley Cancer Committee. Soon after this, financial support from the Metro Council of Hospitals ended. However, thanks to the hard work of the committee and the generous donations from the Cedar Valley, the Cedar Valley Cancer Committee continued and began to grow.
In October 1998, Allen Hospital provided a breast cancer survivor luncheon to celebrate the 10 years and many accomplishments of Cedar Valley Cancer Committee. It was so successful, it has become an annual tradition with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and Allen Hospital providing the survivor luncheon alternate years. During the luncheon Beyond Pink TEAM reflects on its long list of accomplishments and everyone is energized to continue this important work. Beyond Pink TEAM is the only Cedar Valley breast cancer organization working to prevent breast cancer, working for quality breast cancer care, and providing services and financial support to women and men living with breast cancer. Realizing breast cancer continues to take a toll in the Cedar Valley and the US despite significant attention and resources directed at the disease, Beyond Pink TEAM became a National Breast Cancer Coalition member organization in 2004 Beyond Pink TEAM advocates for the priorities of the National Breast Cancer Coalition in order to make real progress toward saving lives and ending breast cancer. In 2006, the name Beyond Pink TEAM was selected because members realized the group had gone beyond awareness, beyond pink ribbons, beyond pink trinkets and was Taking Action, Educating, Advocating, and Making a real difference both locally and nationally. Beyond Pink TEAM continues to be the most active member of the Cedar Valley Cancer Committee. In 2010, Beyond Pink TEAM revised its mission to reflect all it does. Today, the Beyond Pink TEAM is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “provide breast cancer prevention, education, support and advocacy for comprehensive, quality care for all in the Cedar Valley and surrounding communities.” Now, in 2020 we are busier than ever.
